DESIGN PROCESS
All builds are a collaboration between many parties: clients, designers, builders, trades and fabricators. Everyone’s ideas are valuable and by engaging openly with all parties the best outcome can be achieved.
The process starts by analysing the site and the design brief and establishing current, accurate building costs. From here we can more clearly develop the schematic designs, resolving the larger spatial elements. This involves close collaboration with clients as we look at, discuss and critique proposed solutions.
Three dimensional digital models and or handmade models will be made to test the designs spatial elements and seasonal sun penetration into the building.
Once the schematic design is completed and approved, we move to design development. This is where we go into greater detail on interior and exterior room layouts, materials and fixture selections.
Finally, detailed working drawings, consultants’ drawings and consultant reports are collated to produce construction documents for shire approval and building.
These are four general steps in the design and documentation process that cross over and interlock.
- design brief and analysis
- schematic design
- design development
- construction drawings
CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
Nominating a trusted builder early in the design process is essential.
By doing this, your builder will be able to provide cost estimates early during the design process and this will avoid any surprises when it comes time to build.
Your builder will also be able to provide practical feedback on cost effective construction solutions.
We are available to discuss all elements of the project with the builder before and during construction.
